I am currently looking for a new job and have a cv, I apply to lots of organisations but never seem to get asked for an interview. I wondered if I had a professional cv and covering letter I would have a better chance of getting the job I want.
I am currently working in a finance department

Hi Miranda.
When I am looking to recruit, the thing I look for is a punchy CV, not one that gives your life history step by step!
Keep to the facts in your CV. List achievements, expectations, responsibilities and ambition, ambition is always good because it tells your prospective employer that you want to grow.
List your qualifications generally. ie; 6 GCSE grades A-C including English and Maths, there is no need for me to know that you have needle-craft or cookery grade F!
Imagine yourself as a stranger reading it and trying to keep yourself interested, if it bores YOU chances are it will bore me! And last but not least, keep it to 2 pages. Think about the amount of applications that can be received for one position……….20, 30 maybe. If they are more than 2 pages, I generally don’t read them unless there is something on the first page that really grabs me.
I hope this is of some use to you hunny and the very very best of luck with your job-hunting……….which industry do you want to work in by the way?

It is VERY IMPORTANT to concentrate on correct spelling, punctuation and grammar when writing a CV! You ought to always consider it important – even (and especially) when posting questions here!

I have unsuccessfully tried to find a new job as my current one is dead-end and I am earning minimum wage. So far I have had little to no responses and most recruitment consultants just don’t call me back.

I have experience is sales, customer service and academic experience in IT.

What are the best and most viewed websites by recruiters to submit my CV?

For the uk-
monster.co.uk – difficult to set up searches, or edit your CV
jobsite.co.uk – loads of extra stuff on how to do interviews
totaljobs.com
jobserve.co.uk – will email you as vacancies are posted
cwjobs.co.uk – will email you as vacancies are posted

the job centre website (use jobseekers.direct.gov) has vacancies but doesn’t allow you to upload a cv.

Im re writing my CV as i feel it needs abit of an update but im stuck on the personal profile bit. I have "I am a keen learner, who has a flexible approach to work. I am a friendly person, who works well in a team, but can also work well individually if the situation arises"

But reading it seems so plain and boring. Any help with making it sound abit more interesting?

what about trying this:

Profile
A motivated, adaptable and responsible graduate seeking an entry-level position in public relations which will utilise the organisational and communication skills developed through my involvement with Kent Rag and promotional work during vacations.

During my degree I successfully combined my studies with work and other commitments showing myself to be self-motivated, organised and capable of working under pressure. I have a clear, logical mind with a practical approach to problem solving and a drive to see things through to completion. I enjoy working on my own initiative or in a team. In short, I am reliable, trustworthy, hardworking and eager to learn and have a genuine interest in PR.

I got it from one of the CV website, check the source :)
